Senator Watson responds

After speaking at the St. Clair County GOP Reagan Dinner Thursday night (see portions of his emotional comments "Watson gets frank about Obama") Senator Frank Watson was hospitalized the next day, having suffered a mild stroke.  He responds to concerns via today's Capitol Connection:

Dear Friends,

As you may have heard, on Friday I noticed some discomfort and sought medical attention. Doctors at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis confirmed that I had suffered a mild stroke.

As of this writing, I am still at Barnes, undergoing tests and being encouraged to rest. While I feel good, I recognize that any stroke can be serious and am trying to follow the advice of my doctors to reduce the chance of any reoccurrence and to speed my recovery.

As you can imagine, I am anxious to get back to work. However, I recognize that a premature return to a full schedule is not wise, so I am working hard at taking it slow.

I am very honored and moved by the concern that so many of you have shown and appreciate your well wishes. At this time, I am not taking calls or visitors, and am asking that any cards be directed to my Greenville Office, 1355A S. State Route 127, Greenville, Illinois, 62246.

Of course, after something like this, I am aware of the need for everyone to be conscious of the warning signs of a stroke and to encourage people to seek medical care immediately if they recognize the signs in themselves or someone they are with. I have asked that this edition of Capitol Connection include some links and additional information on stroke awareness.

Sincerely,

Frank Watson

Senate Republican Leader
