The Emmy Awards and The Angry Left
by Mark Rhoads
Laura Linney is a talented actress who won an Emmy Award yesterday for her portrayal of Abigail Adams in the special HBO series on John Adams. In my opinion, she deserved the award. But like others on the Angry Left in Hollywood, she could not pass up a chance to throw gratuitous darts at the Republican ticket when she showed up for interviews later. "Our founding fathers were community organizers," she said in the media tent. "I just feel it's been disparaged a bit. I don't feel anyone should be disrespected, no matter what party they're in. No matter who they are."
No one should be disrespected? No matter who they are? Is she kidding? The entire Emmy show was an orgy of pointless and angry disrespect for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. What have these two Republicans done to merit this Hollywood temper tantrum of hyper-scorn? They simply stand in opposition to the Democratic ticket which is what the point of free elections is all about.
But while we are considering Linney's bizarre fantasy of John Adams as a "community organizer" in the Obama sense of the word, please someone remind me when it was that Mr. Adams petitioned the Parliament, or Congress, or the Massachusetts legislature to hustle up some money for corrupt anti-American and radical pals such as ACORN. Ms. Linney, I too read David McCullough's entire book on John Adams, not just the screenplay. It seems to me John Adams was most dedicated to promoting freedom and victory over tyranny--goals that Sen. Barack Obama has little interest in. In fact, I can't recall any time Obama has ever said that "victory" would be desirable in either Iraq or Afghanistan and yet, he "supports the troops" but never their mission.
