Casinos are to horse racing what Chicago dailies should be to blogging

The more we think about it, the more we think maybe the Illinois Supreme Court did make the right decision last month when they determined the most profitable casinos in the state should pay a 3 % tax to their competitors in Illinois' horse racing industry. After all, in Blagojevich's Blue Illinois our motto is "all things equal and fair," right?

I'm wondering if among Illinois Review readers there's an attorney that would like to use the Supreme Court's decision as an impetus to help us demand the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune take 3% of their profits each week and distribute among chosen bloggers who struggle to provide news, commentary and insight without any compensation. In most cases, bloggers spend their own hard-earned cash to purchase the venue and keep it online. It just isn't fair that the Sun-Times and the Trib make all that money and don't give us any.

Casino2Yes, we agree with the Supreme Court.  Enough is enough.  The big guys have had their success and  now they're taking business away from us bloggers.  The public benefits from more news and more information just as they benefit from the Empress' tax dollars.  Illinoisans need to hear what's going on from a different perspective, and after all, the dailies are mesmerized by Barack Obama, Rod Blagojevich, Mike Madigan and Oprah.  It's time those big guys take care of those of us who haven't made the big time yet.

Now we are well aware the Illinois legislature passed this 3% casino tax to help an ailing horse racing industry rather than help a struggling new gambling opportunity and that Republican leaders owe lots to the horse racing industry,  but we think the principle our legislators used in coming up with this taxing solution should also apply to starving bloggers who are doing all they can to help the Illinois public.

Yep, we think it's good the Supremes unanimously stuck it to the big guys.  It's about time.

Now, when do we get our fair share?
