Being for marriage means "hate," McDonald's says

Americans For Truth has called a press conference outside of McDonald’s world headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, this Wednesday, July 16, in support of American Family Association’s (AFA) boycott of the fast-food giant. Joining AFTAH and AFA will be representatives of Liberty Counsel, Illinois Family Institute, AFA of Pennsylvania, Culture Campaign and other pro-family advocates — including some moms who will explain why they won’t be taking their children and family to McDonald’s until the corporation stops promoting homosexuality and “gay” activism.

Note McDonald’s unfortunate choice below of the word “hate” as applied to critics of the company’s pro-homosexual policies. When we’ve reached the point where belief in the Bible and traditional morality is routinely equated with hatred, America has become hostile territory for people of faith. Sadly, pro-homosexual “diversity” is becoming a code-word for anti-Christian bigotry, as we at AFTAH have experienced before. American Family Association writes July 10, 2008:

McDonald’s: those opposing SSM motivated by hate
Throwing out any pretense of being neutral in the culture war, McDonald’s has taken up the rhetoric of gay activists, suggesting those who oppose same-sex “marriage” (SSM) are motivated by hate.

AFA has asked for a boycott of McDonald’s restaurants because of the company’s promotion of the gay agenda. AFA asked McDonald’s to remain neutral in the culture war. McDonald’s refused.

In response to the boycott, McDonald’s spokesman Bill Whitman suggested to the Washington Post that those who oppose SSM [”same-sex marriage”] are motivated by hate, saying “…hatred has no place in our culture.” McDonald’s has decided to adopt the “hate” theme used by homosexual activist groups for years.

Whitman went on to say, “We stand by and support our people to live and work in a society free of discrimination and harassment.” Mr. Whitman has intentionally avoided addressing the reason for the boycott. This boycott is not about hiring gays or how gay employees are treated. It is about McDonald’s choosing to put the full weight of their corporation behind promoting their agenda.

McDonald’s donated $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in exchange for membership and a seat on the group’s board of directors. The NGLCC lobbies Congress in support of same-sex “marriage.”

McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner said the company will promote issues they approve. “Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are. We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world…and we do.”

I personally faxed a letter to McDonald's CEO, Jim Skinner, expressing my concerns over the decision to embrace the agenda of the homosexual business lobby -- including counterfeit "marriage."

I received a disappointing response letter in the mail shortly thereafter, in which McDonald's reaffirmed their wayward commitment to "diversity" -- a policy that, ironically, leaves people of faith and traditional values out in the cold. I have to wonder if McDonald's view of "diversity" will also extend its embrace to other groups, such as bisexuals and polygamists. If sexual behavior is the only qualification -- why not include these "special" folks too?

I do not understand why McDonald's has made such a foolish decision, as it will alienate the millions of families who believe that homosexuality is not just immoral, but changeable.

This move will only prove to be beneficial to smaller family-owned restaurants. In time, I hope they realize that the side they've taken in this important and divisive cultural argument was ill advised.

We feed information about what's happening in Illinois politics. Perhaps it's your inability to be adult about the diverse views and topics that cultivates disrespect for counter views? Worldwide franchises such as McDonald's deem this topic worthy of addressing.

Here is the reality, McDonald's has had to scale back their expansion plans for years.

However, McDonald's has done the one thing no other franchise concept has been able to do, it has successfully managed to gain a huge Hispanic customer base. While most restaurants have employed Hispanics, McDonald's has made customers of them. check it out sometime. Most FF joints do not find their employees eating there on their off day, that is not true of McDonald's. In general the chains that have a large percentage of Hispanics were created with that purpose in mind. You can actually see this in action by checking out the largest operator of Burger Kings. Burger King has a definite ethnic niche, and a declining demographic at that. for years they tried to attract Hispanics and failed. So now their largest operator is taking the profits from their Burger King operations and expanding to concepts aimed at the Latin wave.

My point with all this gobblygook, is queers are simply a growth area for McDonald's. MCdonald's has done the unthinkable, it has loyal Hispanic customers. Now it is going after the gays. Nothing must send a chill up their spine like seeing Hamburger Mary's arrive in Chicago only to find a whole customer base lining up outside their doors. McDonald's is countering this encroachment. McDonald's desperately needs growth and McQueers may be the way.

I too faxed a letter to the president of McDonalds congratulating him on taking the right stance and embracing good core fundamental conservative values like individual liberty and freedom of/from religion. It is good to see a company willing to stand up to the tiny vocal minority of fringe religious extremists and take a righteous stand even when they stand in the virtual belly of the beast - right there in dupage county.
