Sauerberg challenges Durbin to commit to Fitzgerald retention
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Sauerberg reacted Wednesday evening to the Rezko guilty verdict:
(Lombard, IL) - "The guilty verdict in the trial of Tony Rezko is an indictment of the broken processes in Springfield and Washington. The career politicians like Dick Durbin have allowed our political and legislative processes to be corrupted by the lobbyists and the special interests.
The current leadership in both Washington and Springfield is ethically and morally bankrupt, and it is time to clean house. It is time to end the era of mismanagement by the career politicians and it is time to restore the American people's faith in our government and our elected leaders."
"The people of Illinois owe a tremendous thank you to United States Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and his team of prosecutors for their work on this case. As the next Senator from Illinois, I will recommend, to the next President, that Patrick Fitzgerald by re-appointed, and I would urge Senator Durbin to join me in making this commitment."

It is my understanding that Obama committed to keeping Fitzgerald on the job if he is elected President during a meeting with the Chicago Tribune's editorial board. Shouldn't the question be raised with McCain instead of Durbin to make sure that both bases are covered?

David,
I think Cal Skinner can answer that question for you . . .
Cal?

I asked McCain in February 2007 whether he would keep Fitzgerald and the answer was, "Yes."
The Chicago Tribune's bottom editorial entitled, "Keeping Patrick Fitzgerald," says McCain told its editorial board he would keep Fitzgerald on Nov. 13, 2007.

I wouldn't believe a word Obama says. Try term limits. We did it in California and cut the corruption in half. You have to get rid of Daley too!

If you carefully read the tribune editorial yesterday on PatFitx's retention you will see that Obama said that Fitzgerald did a great job, but be did not firmly and positively say that he would retain him.
