Obama shows gratitude with CSU earmark favors
Chicago State University -- one of the state's most financially-gifted universities since Emil Jones took over control of the Illinois Senate -- has also been getting their share of federal funds, thanks to our junior U.S. Senator Barack Obama. (Jones featured in photo to the right of Obama)One request for CSU was for research into unmanned aerial systems for $5,000,000. Funding is to be used to improve the effectiveness of the military's unmanned aerial systems by replacing conventional power supply systems with fuel cell technology packages specifically made for mobile robotics systems.
Another request was to develop a sustainable and portable power system for military operation for $5 M, of which CSU received $1.84 M. This funding was to assist in the development of a solar cell power generating system that can be mounted on a backpack, and rapidly deployed and reconfigured for military operation. The system will include sensors, computing systems, and intelligent processing and communications systems.
The third set asides for CSU's HIV/AIDS Policy and Research Institute for $1,000,000. In response to the growing HIV/AIDS crisis in the African American population, CSU has undertaken comprehensive approach to assist with efforts in the South Side of Chicago. This project would support local outreach, education, prevention and research efforts.
Imagine what CSU could get if Obama is elected president . . .
