13 year old's 2007 death memorialized; no mention accused was in states illegally

The 2007 death of 13 year old Schanna Gayden was memorialized last month in Logan Park. The tragedy might have been avoided had felons been required to reveal their immigration status as Rep. Randy Ramey's (R-West Chicago) HB 5756 would require.

Right now, Illinois judges are not encouraged to inquire immigration status and police are restrained from asking. Ramey's bill would protect innocents from dangerous criminals living in Illinois illegally. One of the accused in Schanna Gayden's murder is a 26 year old Kenyan whose student visa had expired. At the time this violent crime was committed, Mwenda Murithi's rap sheet reflected 28 prior arrests and four jail times. Yet no deportation.

These are the creeps Illinois Coalition for Immigration and Refugee Rights' attorneys are fighting to protect in their effort to stop HB 5756.  See Illinois Review's post "What's Your Legal Status?" earlier this week. There will be more on this story in the days to come.

ABC 7 does a nice job on this story, but one crucial perspective was avoided -- it wasn't just gang warfare that killed young Schanna. It happened because the perpetrator escaped deportation with a faulty system used to bestow American constitutional rights on persons who are within out borders illegally. Why would anyone expect them to obey laws pertaining to guns or killing if they have no respect for the basic rule of law?

Call your House lawmaker and tell him or her to support HB 5756 by adding his or her name to the co-sponsor list -- it's a start to ending Chicago's out-of-control violence.

It should be a no brainer for all legislators to support this bill-even if on one was ever hurt.

But then again, many in the legislature, primarily, but not exclusively Democrats, HAVE NO BRAINS.

With Chicago being a sanctuary city and the Mayor welcoming illegals what do you expect? Uneducated low income people especially illegal alien bring gangs, drug and crime. Keep up the good work Mayor it won’t be long before all citizens of Chicago will have to carry guns just to try to survive. Chicago being a sanctuary city is a crime to the legal citizens of the city and to the State.

The sad thing here is that the murder of Schanna Gayden was entirely preventable. Our government has fallen asleep at the wheel. America's borders continue to be unprotected. Internal enforcement is nill and is mostly for show. We have pro-illegal groups like Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights receiving tax-payer funds all the while working against the American people. Where has the common-sense gone?

No, ABC didn't do a "nice job" on this story because of the reason stated above.
This story, to be legitimate, should have focused on the fact that this young girl died because of Mayor Daley's executive order declaring Chicago a sanctuary city.

Daley and his ilk nationally must be held accountable for this tragedy and all like it. But the mainstream media lack the guts to nail Daley to the wall for his kissing up to illegal aliens, who he sees only as future voters if the Congress is stupid enough to grant them amnesty.

No politician is that big that he/she can't be brought down. In order for that to happen, however, you need reporters and editors with spines. When you find one or two, let me know.

I spent nearly 30 years as a Chicago print journalist (Chicago Daily News and Crain's Chicago Business),and the kind of coddling the media give to illegals disgusts me to no end. Those who cover this issue are not "reporters"; they are merely scribes who simply write down everything they are told without ever questioning whether it contains any truth or facts that can be backed up.

In order to be a good journalist, one must employ the practice of critical thinking. Most media members today can't even spell those two words.
