Save the American Worker
by Rosanna Pulido
IR reported on the DHS lawsuit filed against the State of Illinois because of HB1744 which prohibits employers from using e-verify. E-verify helps employers check the legal status of potential employees before they hire them.
Peter Roskam also wrote a column explaining why verification of the legal status of potential employees is important.
Have these events phased Illinois State Senator Iris Martinez?
Apparently not, Senator Iris Martinez has introduced another bill that mirrors HB1744 with some minor changes. Instead of Prohibiting employers from using e-verify to make sure they are hiring LEGAL workers, she now wants to discourage employers from checking legal status of potential employees.
1) employers are discouraged from participating in any Employment Eligibility Verification System, unless otherwise required by federal law; and
(2) the State of Illinois shall not participate in any Employment Eligibility Verification System, unless otherwise required by federal law. Effective immediately.
What I have witnessed across the United States is that the Chamber of Commerce screams the loudest when e-verify is mentioned. Of course, follow the money.
The Chamber of Commerce wants cheap labor. But since our government is still by the people and for the people we can take action to help the American worker.
Call your Illinois State Senator and tell them to VOTE NO for Illinois Senate Bill 1878.
The job you save may be your own!

It's always amazing to me how people want to ignore the word "illegal". If we aren't going to enforce the laws that make an alien 'illegal', then why have the laws at all?
It's just amazing how some politicians like to avoid all the laws themselves, but expect us to live up to the laws that they create.

If the politicians jobs were at risk from illegals, maybe they would think differently.

Whether Iris and the Dems realize it, they are between a rock and a hard place. By protecting illegal aliens they are creating a wedge issue for the Republicans.
That is, if they are smart. That is not an odds on bet.
Who is losing here? It is the black lower class and the legal Hispanics who need those entry level jobs to move up and out of the lowest class.
In fact, without illegal aliens, the true (not the phony legal one) minimum wage will increase in order to have employers able to supply profitable goods and services.

Any number of states and some localities are trying to reduce illegal immigration by various laws- in most cases just clarification and implementation of exisitng laws. It is unfortunate that this is necessary but the reality is that the Feds will not do the job. Furthermore, all three leading Presidential candidates support amnesty and open borders no matter the mealy mouth platitudes they occasionally espouse.
While many of these laws will be contested by the the ACLU an MALDEF, most will likely stand.
What does this mean to Illinois? Well it is pretty obvious that Illinois will become more of a magnet to illegals as other states make some attempt to deal with this issue. Our state motto should be "Illinois, The Sanctuary State" rather than "Illinois, The Land Of Lincoln."
For those of you who think illegal immigration is just fine, this will be good news. You will see plenty more of it. Just wish I could figure out a way for those who think it is so wonderful, that it could be implemented to effect YOU (plural sense) only.
