75 District's Gordon is a phony ATR tax fighter

Just in case you missed it, State Rep. Careen Gordon (D-Morris) slipped up last week and showed she's really a phony tax fighter when she voted to double state income taxes, Republican challenger David McAloon (R-Bourbannais) pointed out yesterday.  (See IR's "Income tax increase debated in State House" April 10)

Even more frustrating, Gordon keeps her job representing a conservative district in the Illinois House by portraying herself as a committed tax fighter.  She even signed onto Americans for Tax Reform's tax pledge.

Maybe ATR could do the 75th District a favor and publicly blast Gordon for lying about her commitment to protect the people of her district from higher taxes?

Here's the scoop . . .

Grundy, Will, Iroquois, Livingston, LaSalle, and Kankakee Counties, IL. – On April 3rd legislation was filed (HJRCA0042) that would, in short, raise taxes affecting mainly families with combined incomes. This proposed bill would tax families based on the combined income of spouses rather than their individual income. Currently, the Illinois tax rate is 3% of an individual’s net income. A combined income would mean that many families would be subject to a 6% tax rate; doubling the amount they currently pay in taxes. According to David McAloon, this bill lacks “common sense”.

On April 10th, HJRCA0042 failed to garner the votes it needed to stay alive. Though the bill lost in the Illinois House of Representatives, 75th State Rep Careen Gordon was among those who voted in favor of the bill. However,
Gordon is listed by the Americans For Tax Reform (ATR) as having signed a pledge stating, “I…pledge to the taxpayers…to all the people of this state, that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.”

David McAloon has expressed his opposition to such legislation that would raise taxes or fees of any kind. “It’s pretty simple; any time you raise taxes and fees, someone loses their job.,” stated McAloon. Like many of the constituents, McAloon is aware of the affects of the rising costs of utilities, food, gasoline, and education and knows the strain these increases have caused on working Illinois families.

McAloon’s background, including 15 years of fighting for limited government and lower taxes on working families, substantiates his experience and longevity against increased taxes.

McAloon, having signed the pledge through ATR to vote against any increase in taxes, is very clear on his position on taxes and fees. When asked how he thinks we can change the economic climate in our state, McAloon had this to say; “We need to roll back tax and fee increases from the past five years so that we can start attracting good, wage-earning jobs to Illinois rather than sending them to other states.”

Let's keep one fact in mind: In supporting HJRCA 42, Gordon voted to LOWER taxes for over 95% of her constitutuents and to raise them for fewer than 5%. McAloon insists he would reject tax relief for 95+%.

The old stick-it-to-the-"rich" Dem ploy. You gotta love it. Problem is, more and more of Gordon's constituents are moving in that are those "rich" people who she thinks should carry all the weight for the rest of the state.
She's on her way out.

Michelle thinks all Democrats are "on their way out." Gordon will win in a landslide. The House GOP isn't backing McAloon.

Is the House GOP backing McAloon? They opposed him last election.

The House Republicans, the county Republicans, and the Grassroots are all backing McAloon. If the Dems & Gordon want to think other wise great let them stay asleep at the wheel.

HJRCA42 did NOT lower taxes on anyone...nice try. she pledged not to raise taxes period. but she did that is the main thing.....
I think Obama is right about only 1 thing, it is time for a change in Illinois!!!!!!
