Peraica Introduces Resolution to Rescind Cook County Home Rule
Would Put Referendum on County's November 2008 Ballot
CHICAGO, IL – Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica announced today that he will put forth a resolution at the April 9, 2008 County Board meeting that provides for a November 2008 ballot referendum calling on the Illinois General Assembly to rescind home rule for Cook County.
“Cook County is the only Illinois county with home rule authority – and that authority has been abused by political insiders who continue to enact oppressive taxes on the county taxpayers,” said Peraica. “Home rule allows a governing board like the Cook County Board of Commissioners to vote to raise taxes without seeking voter approval. I believe that Cook County has abused the home rule powers granted by the 1970 Illinois Constitution, and that Cook County's home rule powers should be repealed.”
Rescinding Cook County’s home rule authority would require voter approval for future tax increases. In the recently passed FY 2008 budget, the Cook County Board passed a massive half-billion tax increase to shore up an alleged $280 million deficit. On the same day this tax increase was enacted, a federal court monitor’s report lambasted the county for continued rampant illegal patronage hiring.
“This latest tax increase was unnecessary and highly unpopular with the residents of Cook County, as it sticks the taxpayers with the bill for the insiders’ patronage abuse and corruption,” said Peraica. “This resolution to rescind home rule will restore power to the taxpayers, and prevent the insiders from pushing through last minute, draconian tax increases in future budget years.”

Keep 'em coming Tony. Some day the overtaxed sheep of Cook Co. will wake up and take notice. In the mean time keep shining that light into the dark foggy harbor of the corrupt Cook Co. government.

RINOs and Democrats like Peraica are all mouth and no action. Several times he lost against the Chicago Machine.

Peraica, as a candidate for Cook County State's Attorney will not enforce the law to deport illegal aliens. Illinois Coalition for Refugee Rights named him man of the year, he's done more harm by ignoring the rights of citizens and helping illegals than any other "Republican" (and I use that term lightly) elected official.

By allowing illegals here, Peraica has increased the spending for Cook County. He's no better than any Democrat. One solution is to cut taxes, but he never brought up cutting spending to services for Illegal Aliens who don't have to pay tax dollars like we citizens do.

Just the FACTS......
Since 2000, Tony Peraica's record is 7 WINS & 1 loss. In March/2002, Tony WON both Lyons Republican Committeeman and Cook County Commissioner (Primary). In November/2002, Tony WON for Cook County Commissioner(General). In March/2006, Tony WON Lyons Republican Committeeman and both Primaries(Commissioner & Board President). In November/2006 Tony split the General. He WON for Commissioner but lost for Board President. Remember all those Peraica haters who told you to vote for Stroger?
Tony Peraica is the only elected official with the guts to take on the machine.

A very well-intentioned idea, but doomed to fail due to the Cook County Dems' stranglehold over the state legislature and all of its leadership positions. Forget it, it won't happen.
