Tonight, Illinois voters nominated Jim Oberweis, a successful entrepreneur and family man who defeated long time Republican State Senator Chris Lauzen in the special primary election.
Former Speaker Dennis Hastert endorsed Oberweis in the primary and will be enthusiastically supporting him in the special general election.

History. The 14th District was carried by President Bush in 2004 with 56% of the vote.
Geography. The 14th Congressional District of Illinois covers a part of northern Illinois, including the cities of Aurora, Elgin, DeKalb, Dixon, and parts of Henry, Whiteside, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and DuPage counties. It was represented by Republican Dennis Hastert, the former Speaker of the House, since 1987. He resigned on November 26, 2007.
