From Gorman's communication to Cook County GOP yesterday:
However, I believe strongly that our Party organization must function smoothly, promoting a unanimity of purpose and singularity of voice. From the court house to the White House, we must not be distracted from electing Republicans at every level. It is critically important at this time that the attention of the voters be focused on the candidates and the issues, not internal Party matters.
My brief tenure as chairman has laid a foundation for building and uniting the Cook County Republican Party. And with this foundation in place, I believe I can step aside so that new leadership can continue this work and so we can place all of our energy into the important tasks leading up to the November election.

Dear Fellow Committeemen:
When I was asked by several of our colleagues to assume the leadership of the Cook County Republican Central Committee, I knew very clearly that our Party faced many challenges. The very night that my fellow committeemen and women elected me to serve as chairman I made several commitments to address the most pressing of those challenges.
I pledged to strengthen our financial base and delivered on that promise. We had to enhance the lines of communication, register new voters and raise our profile and level of activity in the County. As a result of our efforts, the number of Republican ballots requested in Cook County was at a record high. To those ends and in a very short time, we have raised $50,000 for our treasury, held several executive board and committeemen's meetings, and opened a new LaSalle Street office led by a professional executive director. Thanks to these and other accomplishments, my experience as Chairman has been a positive one.
Through my conversations with my colleagues on the Central Committee, I am confident that I would have been successful if I were to stand for another term as your chairman. It has indeed been an honor and privilege to serve in this role.

Please join me and your fellow committeemen at the Parthenon on March 5th, 2008. I look forward to seeing you all there.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth "Liz" Doody Gorman
Chairman, Cook County Republican Central Committee
