UPDATED 5x: Just wait, the Tinley Park killer will return

Tinleypark

UPDATE 5:  Feb. 15: The Tinley Park slaying was featured this week on America's Most Wanted.

UPDATE 4:  Feb. 15:  Mayor Zabrocki reported this am that the Tinley Park Police are updating the sketch and hope to have it ready for distribution at a Tinley Park memorial for the slain ladies this weekend.

**********

Earlier this week, Illinois Review called for Illinois to join the states to the east and to the west of us by allowing trained and qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons for their protection (here).  This morning, we call for the moratorium on the death penalty to be lifted.

These calls are to prevent another tragedy like the Tinley Park shooting . . .

A new revelation yesterday shows how serious this call for concealed carry is.  The local 911 recorded one of the Lane Bryant victims pleading for help while a Tinley Park police officer was just 200 yards away, across the parking lot, responding to an unrelated call at the nearby Super Target.  Unbeknownst to the officer that Saturday morning, he was seconds away from five innocent women being bound with duct tape and shot to death.

According to the newly-released records, the store manager called 911 and the call was picked up by Will County Sheriff's Department who immediately transferred to the Tinley Park Police, which summoned the officer on the Brookside Mall premises.  During those crucial seconds, the perpetrator killed the women and escaped.  He remains on the loose.

Even though under unspeakable duress, the store manager did all Illinois law allows:  she had the presence of mind to find a phone, dial 911 and plead for help.  One story indicated the lone survivor said hearing the 911 operator's voice on the phone may have panicked the killer, because he immediately began shooting.  Any police assistance would have been too late.

Lane Bryant has issued a $50,000 reward for the capture of this cold-blooded killer and the Tinley Park police have joined a plea to the public for information.  Billboards with the killer's sketch have been posted in the area, publicizing the fact that law enforcement needs help in finding a dangerous man on the loose who would likely not hesitate to kill again.

All the police need to do is wait.  If this vicious killer decides he needs $200 again, he'll come back to Illinois, because here, he knows, women in dress stores are defenseless and, after all, if he's caught he'll not be put to death, even if he kills five more within our state's borders.

Welcome to the liberal Land of Lincoln, where the innocent and law-abiding live in fear.

UPDATE 3:  Feb 14: SunTimes reports suspect picked up not involved in slayings.

UPDATE 2: Feb 13 at 9:00 PM:  Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki says the Chicago Tribune's earlier report was misleading and caused a "firestorm."  While a suspect was taken in, Zabrocki said, he has not been arrested for the Tinley Park shooting.

UPDATE:  Feb 13 Wednesday morning, a suspect resembling the sketch was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshalls.  The suspect apprehended was sought on a parole violation and arrested outside a southside Chicago home, the Chicago Tribune reports here.  Evidently, he never left Illinois.  Even scarier than ever.
