Political Blather That Can Kill You
By Lee Newcom
One of the great losses in political discourse is thoughtfulness.
Take for example the current gushing of national blather over the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) released this week, which you are hearing concludes that Iran is not currently developing nuclear weapons. Suddenly we are not at risk, haven’t been and can sleep well at night knowing psychopath President Ahmadinejad really didn’t mean it when he threatened to smoke Israel and us.
We don't have to think about it. Yesterday I heard another political blathermouth Democrat concluding that this proved President Bush was lying to us again. Even conservatives are accepting the false conclusion that Iran is now not a current threat.
One of the most brilliant national servants of the last decade, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, pens a rebuke of the report in the Washington Post.
It is a must read for anyone, liberal or conservative, who cares about the protection of this country and wants to think, precisely why most blathermouths won’t read nor refer to his writing. (It is also a great example of why the Democrats refused to confirm him as UN Ambassador. People who think threaten their small minds.)
Bolton begins,
"Rarely has a document from the supposedly hidden world of intelligence had such an impact as the National Intelligence Estimate released this week.
Rarely has an administration been so unprepared for such an event. And rarely have vehement critics of the "intelligence community" on issues such as Iraq's weapons of mass destruction reversed themselves so quickly."
Read it all. It isn’t that long and you will come away knowing why what you hear from politicians and the media is, in fact, more evidence of not thinking too deeply.
