Ron Paul Supporters Gather Signatures at Peace Rally

by Cal Skinner

The Northwest Herald concentrated on the McHenry County Peace Group’s participation in the peace demonstration in Downtown Chicago Saturday. It ran  video, including an interview with Crystal Lake’s Libby Pappalardo, but I’m told nothing appeared in the print edition.

There were supporters for Ron Paul’s Republican campaign for president there, too. The Ron Paul for President backers were gathering petition signatures from the peace supporters for their presidential candidate. Lore in the Libertarian Party says that only about half the signatures collected in Chicago are valid ones. Here is a report from the front:

Also among the thousands downtown on Saturday were about 50 Ron Paul supporters, waving signs, collecting signatures, passing out literature, and turning a lot of left and center people on to Ron Paul. I saw one or two people with Obama buttons, but they’re not sure why, since he wants occupy Iraq for at least 10 more years. The only other presidential candidate with a presence was Dennis Kucinich, who had a few people collecting signatures and carrying small, flimsy signs. The only presidential candidate with an airplane banner (calling for an end to the war) circling Union Park during the rally was Ron Paul, see attached pictures. One shows the Ron Paul airplane banner flying over the top of the stage, the other is a close up of the airplane and banner.

I wonder if any of the McHenry County Ron Paul supporters will run for Republican precinct committeeman. If they don't like the person nominated by the Republican Party, they could always resign and let the new county chairman appoint a replacement. Any so inspired or anyone else that would like to energize the McHenry County Republican Party, can learn how to run for the office (10 “good” signatures required, but I recommend 20) by clicking below:

Anyone who thinks that the Democrats will somehow get us out of Iraq might take a lesson from my district in Pennsylvania. We elected a first time politician, Joe Sestak, to replace a 10-term Republican, Curt Weldon, because Sestak promised to get our troops home by the end of this year. The first thing Sestak did was to vote in favor of Bush's request, made last spring, to spend a few hundred more billions of our dollars in support of the war. He is asking for more billions next month... I have no doubt but that Sestak will one again vote for the war. On the Republican side we have that crazy Rudy... well, only one thing to do, and that is to vote for Ron Paul. If I had an airplane and could fly one I'd attach a Ron Paul banner to it! Great picture!

Every American supports the war in Iraq or supports the terrorists. Rep. Paul and the majority of Democrats are on the wrong side.

Phil, bless you, but it's simply not that simple, especially in light of actual history. I'd say taking taxpayers' money to give weapons to bin Laden and Saddam in the 80s was supporting terrorists and making them into the more dangerous versions they became in a few short years, wouldn't you? Outside of Ron Paul, none of the Republican Presidential candidates have criticized our past policies of actually supporting these terrorists by giving them money, weapons, and training.

Rep. Paul did not vote to use American resources to prop up Al Qaeda or Saddam's regime, although the Republicans and Democrats sure did. Do you support taking poor American's money and giving it to dictators and terrorist thugs like the rest of the Republican Presidential candidates do? If so, one could validly argue you are on the wrong side. That isn't true, but it's just as valid of an argument as you just made.

Rep. Paul wants what is best for America regardless of your shortsighted, simple opinion. That is the right side to be on. Rep. Paul seems to be the only one who understands how our failed foreign entanglement policies of past Republican and Democratic administrations have led to the terrorist threats we face to day. They don't hate us because we are Americans or Christians. They hate us because we are over there messing with them and doing a really poor job of it. The first Bush failed to take out Saddam when he had the chance and the international cover. That was the biggest support anyone could give the terrorists the past 25 years, but I don't hear you calling Bush's father a terrorist supporter do I? Or Reagan? Or Rumsfeld when he was shaking hands with Saddam? Or Cheney when he was orchestrating using American's money to give arms to Saddam? So whose side are you really on if you support giving actual aid to actual terrorists?

Phil, your bi-polar hobson's choice is inadequate.

Some of us have no position on the Iraq war, one way or the other. Some of us are focused on local politics. This non-position does not put us on the other side.

As for those who are pro or anti Iraq war, they are both coalitions of strange bedfellows. Generalizations about them are difficult.

Is Cal Skinner encouraging the Paulistas to try an effect a takeover of the McHenry Co. GOP?

If they should by some miracle succeed, I would like the exclusive rights to the aluminum foil hat concession at their party convention.

Just what percentage of the Ron Paul cult subscribes to the theory that 9/11 was an inside job, put up by the FBI and Pres. Bush?

I am encouraging new blood from any and all directions.

Does that include the Lyndon LaRouche organization? Or the National Socialist White People's Party?

Yes politwriter!
We must only have 2 parties!
We must only promote from within
and use entrenched candidates!
