(THE ARTICLE: The Republican Party exists to advance its platform which is conservative. The Democrat Party exists to advance its platform which is liberal. Your GOPUSA Illinois Editor was appointed as the DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman in 1999, elected to that office in 2000 and reelected in 2002, 2004, and 2006. I will be one of the first in line at the DuPage County Election Commission office this morning to file to again serve as a precinct committeeman. Needless-to-say, people who can not or will not help elect candidates who will advance the Republican Party platform should not file. In all Illinois counties except Cook, the close of business on Monday, November 5, is the deadline to file to become a precinct committeeman. Hopefully, the Illinois Republican Party, each county and township party organization, and each and every other Republican organization in Illinois either has assured or will assure that a resident in each precinct in their area who can and will advance the Republican Party platform files to become a precinct committeeman by the close of business on Monday, November 5.)

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Lonnie Morris of Lombard blames global warming on Republicans, promotes Al Gore
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=65747&src=
(THE LETTER: Roskam drags feet on global warming - Lonnie Morris, Illinois Sierra Club Chapter, Cool Cities Chair, Lombard Peter Roskam has made it clear that he is not in favor of renewable energy by his votes on the Clean Energy Act and the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act, as discussed in Marni Pyke's Oct. 8 article covering Greenpeace's rally asking Congressman Roskam to co-sponsor the Safe Climate Act. While the residents of District 6 wait for Congressman Roskam to find a global-warming measure he can support, several DuPage mayors have stepped forward and met the global warming challenge by signing on to the U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Act. Elmhurst's Mayor Tom Marcucci joined Carol Stream and Westmont when he signed the agreement on Oct. 4. By agreeing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012, these mayors have become leaders in the search for clean, efficient, energy solutions that avert the predicted climate crisis, save taxpayers money and create green jobs. The window of opportunity to commit to a course of action on global warming is narrowing. It's time for Congressman Roskam to let us know which solutions he supports and not the ones he rejects.)

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: VERY SAD: Instead of promoting individual responsibility, Naperville promotes reliance on charity and government assistance
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=66126&src=2
(THE ARTICLE: Getting the word out about Naperville's service programs - Jake Griffin Naperville is rich with social service programs and assistance organizations. But the problem many of those organizations' and programs' leaders face is getting word out to people who need their services. The Naperville Police Department has arranged a town hall meeting Tuesday night that will feature leaders of various programs and social service groups. "There's no point in these being secret," Cmdr. Ken Parcel said. "We do anti-drug presentations and anti-gang presentations all the time, and we felt this was something we wanted to get out that these resources were available." The department's social service programs will be highlighted as well as those offered by the county. Local and area service organizations also will be on hand to describe what they offer. Cultural social service groups like Parivar International and the Asian American Suicide Prevention Initiative will have representatives present to discuss what services they offer. "We tried to tailor the panel to meet all the things we see on a daily basis," Parcel said. He said groups that specialize in dealing with cultural stress were invited to the gathering in an effort to highlight other outreach programs available other than emergency services, which is often a last resort of many people. "There's definitely a stigma attached to reaching out to the police when you're in crisis," said NCO Youth and Family Services Executive Director Ron Hume. "I wish there was a universal crisis number other than 911 that people could use that would get them the referral information they need." Parcel said the forum was timed to coincide with the start of the holiday season, which is often a trigger for stress. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at city hall, 400 S. Eagle St.)
-- Administrator pay vs. teacher pay - Emily Krone
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=64589&src=4
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Between 1998 and 2006, the average teacher pay in 94 suburban school districts grew from $46,883 to $59,986, an increase of 28 percent. During that period, the rate of inflation grew 22 percent. Administrators make out much better than teachers, and their salaries have increased at a faster clip. In 2006, the average administrator in the 94 Herald districts made $110,747, compared with $81,023 in 1998, a 37 percent bump. The typical teacher works nine months a year. Administrators generally work year-round.)
-- Herald's job is to report real news - Connie Pohlman, Deer Park
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=65754&src=
(THE LETTER: It was very disappointing, to say the least, seeing an above-the-fold story on Sherri Shepherd on the front page. Since when is entertainment this important? This story would have been appropriate on either the back page or your "arts and entertainment" section. At least the much more important story of the fatal crash involving the DUI teenager getting four years was above that story. I fail to see the similarity of importance of these two stories to warrant the front page. Since when is "The View" given so much credibility? Based on its incredible diversity of intelligence and penetrating grasp of the issues affecting America? To give this insipid celebrity show this much press is the reason so many Americans fail to identify the vice president but quickly name the latest antics of Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. Until we become more concerned with real news than constantly being entertained, the U.S. will continue in its quest for mediocrity. The Herald needs to stop pandering to this.)

-- Minutemen meet at McHenry County College - Sarah Sutschek
http://www.nwherald.com/articles/2007/10/27/news/local/doc4722da291b963318625234.txt
(THE ARTICLE: CRYSTAL LAKE – The Illinois Minuteman Project’s anti-illegal immigration seminar at McHenry County College went off with little contention Friday, two months after its original forum was canceled. Rosanna Pulido, who recently stepped down from her position as the organization’s director to become a field representative for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, briefly addressed the first planned seminar, citing the Holiday Inn’s stance that she had not been truthful in saying who she was. "Folks, that’s a lie,” she said. “I’m Rosanna Pulido. I’ve been Rosanna Pulido for 51 years.” She also said MCC president Walt Packard told her that the Minutemen were a group known for inciting violence, a charge she denies. Pulido called to the members of the audience to get active in combating illegal immigration. “I’d be very grieved that after the meeting people have just come here to get their ears tickled,” she said. “I believe that moral outrage is the greatest motivator.” In August, the Minuteman Project’s seminar at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn was canceled after police informed the hotel that it would have to spend up to $3,500 on extra police to handle protesters at the McHenry County Peace Group’s planned demonstration in opposition to the Minutemen. Attorneys for the Holiday Inn filed an emergency restraining order against the Minutemen, saying the group breached its contract, which was upheld by a judge. On Wednesday, members of MCC student organization Latinos Unidos submitted a petition with about 400 signatures protesting the event. The seminar’s highlighted speaker was Sheriff Dan Beck from Allen County, Ohio, who gained national attention for his tough stance on illegal immigration. “The advocates for illegal immigrants want law enforcement to pick and choose which laws we enforce on particular groups of people rather than enforce the laws fairly on everyone,” he said. His department, with help from organizations such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has been responsible for about 100 detainments and deportations of illegal immigrants, Beck said. These include people from countries beside Mexico, he said. “We have not seen one complaint of improper conduct or profiling by any person legally in our community,” Beck said. Beck discussed on the steps his department has taken against illegal immigration, focusing on partnerships with other law-enforcement agencies, as well as industry leaders. Carlos Acosta, executive director of the McHenry County Latino Coalition, said some methods discussed by Beck were creating a division between law enforcement and immigrants, causing violent crimes to go unreported. “My first concern is that Sheriff Beck turned a blind eye to violent crime,” Acosta said. Kim Hayes of Crystal Lake attended simultaneous rallies held by both Minutemen and the Peace Group after the first cancellation and was back for more education on illegal immigration. “I’m here to hear,” Hayes said. “I’m not a member of the Minutemen, but I like what they’re doing and I want to hear more.” But Pauline Walker of Crystal Lake said she was alarmed at some of the attitudes of other attendees, particularly when one man stood up and said Mexicans are trying to take over the United States. “It makes me think of Nazi Germany,” she said.)

(THE ARTICLE: In the earliest official start ever for an Illinois election, hundreds of candidates seeking office in the 2008 Illinois election are scheduled to file official nominating petitions at the office of the State Board of Elections on Monday, Oct. 29. For the first time, Democratic candidates for President, plus candidates seeking election as delegates and alternate delegates to the Democratic National Nominating Convention, will file at the same time as candidates for federal, state and county offices, according to a release from the Illinois State Board of Elections. Republican Presidential candidates and delegate candidates will file their nominating petitions a month later, beginning Nov. 28. The Green Party has indicated its delegates will be chosen at a caucus or convention, the release said. The Illinois primary election will be held on Feb. 5, 2008, six weeks earlier than the last statewide primary. Jan 14, 2008 is the first day to vote at early voting centers.)

-- Senate Republican Leader Watson Frustrated by Lack of Action
http://wjbdradio.com/news_view.asp?WEBID=10501
(THE ARTICLE: After failing to meet the deadline to override Governor Rod Blagojevich's vetoes on Thursday, Illinois Senate Republican's are now left scratching their heads. Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson says he is disheartened the senate did not follow the house in over riding the vetoes. Watson also questions if the extra money from the vetoes will end up going to health care as the Governor promised. Watson blames Senate President Emil Jones of acting quote --- "undemocratic," and accuses the President of abusing his power. With the Governor's re-appropriations standing firm and an implementation bill that continues to sit in the House, both state and area schools continue to wait on funding, something Watson says shouldn't happen. Centralia High School is one school hoping terms of an implementation bill are finalized soon. School Superintendent Chuck Lane reports the school could lose 15-thousand-dollars a month if the bill is not in place by November First. House Speaker Michael Madigan has called legislator back to the capitol next Thursday, Friday and possibly Monday for discussions. Watson says an agreement on the budget implementation act could made during the meetings.)
