FRANKFORT—Businessman and conservative activist Chris McNeil is exploring a campaign for Congress to succeed retiring Congressman Jerry Weller.
In the last few days, Republicans and Independents have contacted McNeil, a Republican, about running for Congress in the 11th District. McNeil substantially raised his profile, during a highly competitive race, while seeking the Republican nomination for the 81st Representative District in 2006. His grassroots campaign and common-sense, conservative message resonated with voters in Frankfort, earning him 57% of the vote against his opponent. The Frankfort-area would be a crucial voting bloc in a campaign for the 11th Congressional District.
“While I had not planned on being a candidate for public office in 2008, several community and political leaders have contacted me and are encouraging me to run for Congress,” said McNeil.
“Having received support from individuals for whom I have great respect, I will strongly consider a campaign for Congress in the 11th District.”
Chris McNeil, a successful wealth management executive, husband and father, resides with his wife, Lisa, and their three children in Frankfort.
