People of Faith line up to back Dems
Monday night, Democratic prez candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards will address the Sojourner's Pentecost 2007 conference in Washington, D.C. to talk about religion and politics. The discussion will be carried live on CNN from 8 to 9 PM CST. The conference website features a voter's pledge to make fighting poverty a key issue in choosing his or her 2008 presidential candidate. But at least one group is calling for a protest outside this evening's debate (see below the fold).
Obama, Clinton and Edwards have each formed outreach campaigns focused on churchgoers. Obama's new website "Faith-Action-Change: People of Faith for Barack" features testimonials of why those in various religious communities are supporting Barack Obama.
Most prominent on Obama's website is Obama's own black separatist pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ's Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr, who says:
I’m concerned with healthcare; the war in Iraq; the high rates of recidivism in our criminal justice system; the poor condition of the Illinois public school system. Many of the resources that go to support programs such as for those living with HIV/AIDS are now being spent to fund the war. We have to communicate…I support Barack because of his incarnated faith – his faith made alive in the flesh. He reaches across all faith communities and even to those who have no faith at all. He is building a community where everyone has worth. That kind of faith is not easy to find in 2007 and a man like Barack is a rarity.
Speaking of rarities, Dr. Wright's unique brand of Afro-Centric Christianity and Trinity UCC's controversial Black Values System demands frank discussion. Not to mention Obama's pro-abortion and anti-traditional marriage positions. But Trinity is clearly against poverty, especially poverty in the black community.
But apparently, a revival of the Great Welfare Society is what real compassionate religious people will be voting for in 2008. How quickly the American public forgets. Sheep, beware.

Christian Defense Coalition to Lead Protest at CNN Presidential Forum with Senators Clinton, Obama and Edwards
WASHINGTON, June 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Sojourners betray Christian principles of social justice and peace by allowing individuals that support Partial-birth abortion and abortion on demand to speak at their Presidential Forum on "Faith, Values, and Poverty."
Senators Clinton, Obama and Edwards are the featured speakers at the Presidential Forum on Monday, June 4, which will be telecast live by CNN.
All of these Presidential candidates support late-term abortions and abortion on demand which is violence against women and innocent children.
As the late Mother Teresa taught, "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."
Simply stated, abortion is the greatest poverty of all and one cannot profess to be a Christian supporting human rights and social justice while supporting the killing of innocent children through abortion.
Having Senators Clinton, Obama and Edwards speak on "Faith, Values and Poverty," at a Sojourners event would be like having Bull Conner or David Duke speak on civil rights and racial equality and a NAACP conference.
The Christian Defense Coalition will be leading a demonstration and witness in support of human rights and against abortion outside of Lisner Auditorium on Monday, June 4, beginning at 6:00 P.M.

By supporting partial-birth abortion and abortion on demand, Senators Clinton, Obama and Edwards have forfeited the right to speak with authority on Christian values and against poverty. The reason is clear. As Mother Teresa taught, abortion is poverty and a crushing of equality and justice.
"Jim Wallis and Sojourners would never sponsor an event with speakers that were racist, anti-Semitic or misogynist. Yet, they feature three speakers that support violence against women and the killing of innocent children through abortion. What's next for Sojourners, an emerging generation rally on reconciliation featuring skinheads?
"Rev. Wallis and Sojourners would be better served by helping Senator Edwards open his new 26,000 foot home to struggling homeless veterans than having him speak at a Christian event on values and poverty."
