Obama Youth Camps
by John Ruskin
The Chicago Tribune's Christi Parsons has a story today about the new "Obama Camp" for youth. According to the article, it:
"...will offer a twist on the campfire chat: Campers will be schooled in the policies and promises of Sen. Barack Obama..."
"...During the day. they'll learn practical campaign skills...and hear from longtime Obama friends and associates who will talk about his biography and policy positions."
Nothing like a little re-education for the kids. Other's have used the same tactic in the past. You know.

This story is a bit unfair since the same kind of comments could be made about summer church camps. Though, one could have fun imagining what activities the kids could be doing at "Camp Obama". There could be classes like "Icon 101" where youngsters learn how to draw pictures of Obama with the obligatory halo and angel wings...etc. Just kidding.

Obviously courting the Gen-XXX vote is obligatory for a pol projecting himself to be on the scene as a candidate for the next 30 years, but the Rock the Vote tactic did not exactly work last time either. Telling youth the truth about failing segregated schools backed by democratic pols who send their children to private schools extends the debate beyond media hype. Maybe we will yet be lucky enough to get some straight talk, not just from a pre-octagenarian, but from America's Promise and Hope, alas, I remain a dreamer in search of a fleeting reality, determined to slumber in the hope that my somnambulance will deliver me from responsibility for the unintended consequences of vacuous personality politics.

combine the youth camps with the illegal driving lic., and the payments to those who don't pay taxes and you have a life time ticket or longer.
