Illinois' Domestic Terrorism: Part II
by John Ruskin
According to the Associated Press today, Most U.S. Muslims Reject Suicide Bombings. Great. Problem is, terrorism doesn't take a majority. It only takes one.
And according to an exhaustive survey by the Pew Research Center, one in four younger U.S. Muslims say suicide bombings to defend their religion are acceptable.
The survey found that:
There are roughly 2.35 million Muslims in America. Two-thirds are from abroad while a fifth are U.S.-born blacks.
Of those U.S. Muslims under 30 year of age, 2% said suicide bombing can often be justified. 13% said it can be justified, sometimes.
5% of U.S. Muslims have favorable views of the terrorist group al-Qaida. A fourth of those surveyed did not express an opinion.
60% of U.S. Muslims deny that Arab men carried out the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
By six to one, U.S. Muslims say the U.S. was wrong to invade Iraq; and a third say the same about Afghanistan.
So what does this mean to Illinois? Well, it is estimated that approx. 8.4% of the U.S. Muslim population lives in Illinois. That equates to approx. 197,400 individuals.
If the Pew survey is correct, there are in Illinois right now, approx.:
- 3,948 individuals who strongly believe in suicide bombing
- 25,662 individuals who believe suicide bombing can be justified
- 9,870 individuals who are favorably inclined toward al-Qaida
- 118,440 individuals who deny Arab men carried out the 9/11 attacks
And what has the Democrat majority in Springfield, or the Democrat Mayor of Chicago, done to protect the citizens of Illinois from that one person?
NOT MUCH
