Government Insurance Results in More Uninsured

by John Ruskin

The Chicago Tribune reports on a report (I guess that passes for journalism nowadays) that finds the Democrat's effort to insure the uninsured has resulted in...more uninsured! Just what the Liberals wanted.

Several observations:

First: Surprise, surprise that an organization whose raison d'etre is the issue of state-funded coverage of the uninsured should find that there are MORE uninsured! How would they raise money and pay themselves if they didn't have a crisis - an ever growing crisis of course? Who doesn't believe that the Gilead Outreach and Referral Center (author of the report) received a sizable taxpayer funded grant from the Democrat-controlled state government?

Second: Shocked, shocked that the Illinois Democrat's big government, anti choice solutions (e.g. FamilyCare, KidCare, etc.) haven't solved the problem and made our state the nirvana they dream about. After all, government has such a great track record of success. Social Security, welfare, Medicaid, Katrina Relief. What went wrong Rod, Mike and Emil?

Third: What? The Gilead Center is counting illegal aliens in order to hype their numbers and reach the conclusions they want? If we're now counting everyone who is NOT a citizen, then we have to include the other 6+ billion people in the world. We have a bigger uninsured problem than we thought folks! God help us if Rod finds out.

Fourth: Health Care (read: health insurance) is a human right? So said Michael Taitel, board president (read: getting paid somehow) of the Gilead Center. Right Mike. How about we have "government" declare perfect health a human right as well. How about government guaranteeing perpetual youth? Or how about the government outlawing ugliness and unhappiness?

As you can see, government and its agents (read: Gilead Center) aren't the repositories of the brightest and the best.
