Today, I sent letters to members of the Cook County-area Congressional delegation, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitgerald and Cook County Inspector General Joseph Price asking these officials to investigate recent reports of the misuse of federal Homeland Security Funds meant for Cook County.
A recent Fox News Chicago report entitled, "Millions of Dollars Wasted on Cook County Homeland Security Project" (3/15/07) is a troubling look at how $30 million in federal funds meant to protect out citizens are being misused. The funds were distributed to the county as part of an effort called "Project Shield."
I believe the project mentioned in this report is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the misuse of federal Homeland Security funds.
My letter was sent to Representatives Roskam, Bean, Kirk, Davis, Rush, Lipinski, Emanuel, Gutierrez, Jackson and Weller; Senators Durbin and Obama; Cook County Inspector General Joseph Price; and, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.

I ask that all Illinois Review readers join me in contacting their members of Congress to ask that they investigate this matter. As I state in my letter, "Fraud and corruption in Cook County are not new things. This situation, however, involves the health and safety of our citizens. The citizens of Cook County could be at risk."
Let's reform Cook County once and for all.
