In the broadcasting business year-end is often a time of change and another wonderful conservative host is leaving the Chicago airwaves. After 8 years at WLS 890 AM, today is the last day of broadcasting on that station for Eileen Byrne. Eileen has brought a unique young-single-30ish female voice to the airwaves that will be greatly missed.
Eileen has also used her notoriety to promote many great causes and was more willing than almost anyone to make an appearance to help raise money. I remember well an appearance on Bruce DuMont's Beyond the Beltway, about 3 years ago, when Eileen and I were on together. As we talked afterward she learned that I was running for office and asked if she could help. I asked her to come for a fundraiser and she instantly agreed, even though the travel time to Bloomington and back took an entire day of her time. Because of the attendance she attracted we raised the money to fund our mailing for the campaign. As she left that day, she wrote a check to the campaign. She has also been a strong fundraiser for veterans and other causes, much more important than a little political campaign.
She says she will remain in the Chicago area after she is married next year and has not announced what she will be doing. We can only wish her the very best and thank her for a great run for the past 8 years on WLS.
